I have a master degree, my family forced me on a marriage.

There is a little story about the modern forced marriage of a Thai woman who is 25 years old, with a master’s degree. Still, her family want to get her marry with a foreigner for “having a better life” against her will. Her dad negotiates that “Your education won’t bring you to a happy life. Don’t be stupid; marriage with this European guy will make you a happy life.”

She then says no and tells the truth to the guy’s family that the blind-dating was an arrangement without her consent. They understand and leave her in peace.

What a story!

This whole March 2020, www.Thaiconsent.in.th is posting stories of women, girls, boys, who once experienced the “everyday struggle” of gender discrimination in Thailand as a part of #generationequality campaign.
